Hi,
It is only mid-February but I am done with winter. I am calling it quits, I can't do this any more. Between the continuous snow fall, ice storms, power outage, sinus infection and bitter cold weather, I am fed up! Do you hear me Mother Nature, enough is ENOUGH!
I am not sure who is in charge of all this. Exactly which forces of nature department to complain to or what government agency to address my concerns with, but I need someone in command to put an end to this winter right now. My poor nose can't stand to be blown one more time. I think my brains are starting to leak out. Is that possible? Or maybe they have become frozen solid? I can't feel my brain working anymore, along with my toes on most days. It's just too frigid inside and out.
How did early settlers in North America do this? Even with central heating, gas ovens and the invention of the lightbulb at hand, getting through this winter has become a huge challenge. They didn't have any of these gizmos or gadgets and yet they survived. I wouldn't have made it this far into the year as a chick on a chuck wagon. I would have been curled up in a snow bank and called the whole party off long ago. No wonder the fur trade survived and thrived for hundreds of years. I have had to take my shearling coat to bed with me on more than one occasion this last week, and thank goodness for the alpaca blankets in the house. Trying to live in a house with no power or heat made me see what a whoos I have grown up into. I lasted 24 hours then had to bug out to a friends home that had a working furnace. One night in the dark and I was done. Pathetic!
The only part of the power outage last week that I did enjoy was the silence. Nothing hummed in the background, nothing rang or buzzed, beeped, whined or even flickered. I could hear the snow falling, and when the tree branches, laden with ice and snow, snapped and fell to the ground it sounded like gun shot and the ground shook. The quiet was deafening and took some getting used to, but I liked it. Being unplugged wasn't so bad, but I think I prefer to try in on a warm beach, not in the middle of a cruel winter in Pennsylvania.
It is time to shovel the driveway, again. Hi ho!
